For over 20 years, Kidasha has been working in close partnership with local governments, grassroots organisations, and communities to ensure safer brighter futures for the most marginalised and hard-to-reach children and young people living in urban poverty in Nepal — one of the poorest yet often overlooked countries in the world. Protecting them from neglect, abuse, and exploitation; strengthening their physical and emotional well-being; and ensuring access to appropriate education and learning opportunities.
In Nepal’s urban slums, deeply rooted harmful practices affecting children are often normalised. With few livelihood options, many parents are forced to work away from home, leaving children neglected and unsupervised. This results in high numbers of out-of-school children and irregular school attendance — severely limiting their development and extinguishing hope for a brighter future.
We are providing funding for a project which aims to establish small community hubs in five slum communities, providing safe, child-friendly spaces for homework support and creative activities. Hubs will open six days a week after school, offering homework support, creative activities, and a nurturing environment. Designed to improve school attendance, learning outcomes, and reduce dropout rates, the hubs will also serve as a vital safety net — providing a confidential space where children can seek help or report abuse.
