CRESS

CRESS works in rural northern Uganda with displaced people and the local community to provide the skills required to enable them to form self-sufficient, sustainable and ethical communities.

We are funding a project that will support 300 refugees through the creation of 30 Savings and Agriculture Groups, helping families strengthen their financial security, improve food production and build more resilient livelihoods.

The groups will function as community savings banks, enabling members to save money collectively and access small loans for business activities or urgent household needs. Members repay loans over time with interest, allowing the groups to grow sustainably and provide ongoing support within the community. Through this approach, refugees will gain greater financial inclusion, improved access to credit and increased household assets.

Alongside savings activities, participants will receive training in financial literacy and practical livelihood skills, empowering them to manage money confidently, plan for the future and develop sustainable sources of income. The project will also provide training in climate-smart agriculture, equipping refugees with the knowledge to grow vegetables and fruit using sustainable organic techniques that improve soil health, nutrition and long-term productivity.

By combining savings, loans and agricultural training, the project aims to strengthen food security and improve nutrition for participating households while creating opportunities for income generation. The benefits are expected to extend beyond the direct participants to an estimated 2,400 dependents, helping families meet essential costs such as school fees and healthcare and creating brighter futures for children and communities alike.
